TSAThe Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is rolling out a new program called Gateside by TSA PreCheck that will allow people to go through airport security even if they don’t have an airline ticket. The program will give individuals single-day authorization to use TSA PreCheck lanes to enter the post-security areas, to greet or say goodbye to family and friends or unaccompanied minors who are traveling, to meet others who are at the airport during a long layover, or to access the post-security dining or amenities that some airports are really starting to ramp up. Thirteen airports are currently offering the program: John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH), Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas (LAS), Indianapolis International Airport (IND), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas (LIT), Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA), Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City (OKC), Eppley Airfield in Omaha, Nebraska (OMA), Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), San Diego International Airport (SAN), and Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT). Anyone who wants to be part of this program has to be an active TSA PreCheck member (either through that program or through Global Entry), or be part of another program that gets them a Known Traveler Number (KTN). Then, they’ll have to submit a pass request one to three days prior to their planned visit. Approval depends on each airport’s daily visitor cap and peak-hour capacity-those trying to get a pass during peak airport times during the busiest times of the year are less likely to get approved. There is no fee to request or receive a pass, just the fee for whatever Known Traveler Program an individual is a part of. After that, if they are approved, they’ll be able to go through the airport’s PreCheck lane with an ID and their Gateside pass just like they would an airline ticket. #lttravelconnection Now Lets You Go Through Airport Security Without a Flight Ticket at 13 Airports

For a first (or next) culinary pilgrimage down under, head to Victoria and Tasmania, Australia’s island state. From its lush farmland to its marine-rich waters, Australia’s beautiful landscapes yield a cornucopia of fresh ingredients. That bounty is on full display across the southeastern states of Victoria and its neighboring island, Tasmania: Winemakers in Victoria’s Yarra Valley harvest crisp, refined chardonnay grapes (among others). Ranchers at Cape Grim, on Tasmania’s northwestern tip, raise grass-fed, free-range cattle used in intimate, farm-to-table restaurants across the island. And in Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city, known for its culinary prowess honed by a multicultural cast of characters, diverse restaurants and eclectic food tours shine. Victoria and Tasmania may be Australia’s two smallest states by area, but when it comes to food-focused getaways, they deliver big. Here, four experiences not to miss:

Travel Tip Tuesday is saying Why the Mobile Passport Control app should be on your radar! A free service with the potential to speed up entry at a number of U.S. ports and airports, the Mobile Passport Control app (MPC app) should be on your radar. The program essentially generates the required customs form on your Apple or Android iPhone and expedites your processing time when re-entering the country. MPC streamlines the traveler’s entry process into the United States by reducing passport control inspection time and overall wait time. Travelers can download the MPC app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Once you land or otherwise have internet service, you select your arrival airport or seaport (yes, it works for cruises), take a self-photo, and answer a series of questions. The app generates a QR code you can present to a Customs Border Patrol agent at the point of entry, often in a special MPC line allowing you to bypass the longer lines for inspection. As a result, travelers may experience shorter wait times, less congestion, and efficient processing. The system is an alternative to the Global Entry program, which has a price tag of $100 for a five year membership. For the MPC program, there is no fee, and up to 12 family members on the same flight or cruise can use it. #lttravelconnection #

Travel Tuesday Tip: live in the moment. When you are travelling, it is so easy to get caught up in taking photos, checking lists, and thinking about what is next. But some of the best travel memories happen when you slow down and simply enjoy where you are. Take a deep breath, look around, and let yourself be fully present in the experience. #lttravelconnection
